karma ghost is dead. long live karma ghost..

For something like four of five years (I stopped counting), Karma Ghost has existed as a group of people making music. Before that, it was me and a guitar, frantic, in front of a computer, writing and recording. In the time that we've been a band, I've learned a lot about music, my instrument, songwriting, playing in front of people, working with people, and most importantly, myself. The experience gained is far more valuable than the huge piles of money I've thrown at this thing over the years.

I'll tell no sordid, dirty tales of promiscuity or drug addiction (I'm saving those for my eventual rock and roll tell-all book). Instead, I'll simply say that it no longer made sense for Karma Ghost to exist as the three of us.

It wasn't uncommon for someone to decide they didn't like playing a song, or for someone to have a hard time coming up with a part they liked to play, so there's a cache of material that never really made it. I would argue that some of the best songs might still be in that pile. More importantly, I'm still writing and recording demos, and thanks to advancements in home recording since those early days, I see no reason why I can't still release music.

Karma Ghost isn't going away, but things are going to be a little different from now on. I want to take some chances and experiment a little, so I'll probably have some collaborative songwriting and guest musicians. That said, I'm not Trent Reznor, and I do think that putting a full band together would be the more fun way to go, but I'm in no rush. For now, let's just see what happens. Maybe I'll release EPs on iTunes like Ben Folds or something. Whatever happens, I can promise that more Karma Ghost music will be available for purchase in the near future.

One way or another.
